CD Review- Crave "Collage"

This is my first time reviewing a Christian CD.
To start with this isn't your parent's christian CD! It entertains, spreads a message
of hope, and does not fall into the trap of being preachy.
Crave's "Collage" is a great mix of Christian
lyrics along with a hip-hop sensability and even
one song which has a metal flavor to it. My favorite song on the entire CD is
"Broken (I Need You)" This song is inous!
It alone is worth the price of the CD. Crave
has found out that you have to reach beyond the
Christian community and minister to everyone.
Their music is thoroughly enjoyable. Even non-Christians will enjoy it and hopefully get
the spiritual message in the CD's lyrics. Crave is a very talented group of enthusiastic
artists who had a great time making this CD
and it shows. I love the fact too that this CD
entertains but is not preachy.
This CD can be ordered by
contacting Art Slye of CR Masters Capital
Region Commission by email at
aslye@christchapel.org
or calling him at 703-670-8481
The Group is Crave and the CD is called Collage. Buy a copy! You'll be helping support a great group of young talented artists
and immensely enhancing your ears with great music with a timeless message that everyone
needs to hear.

Check This Band Out!

I have a band that I'm friends with who you're
going to hear a lot from in the future. Their
name is Jemson Green. Go to myspace music,
put Jemson Green in the search box, and check
them out. Jemson Green is from Dublin, Ireland.
Yes, the same place U2 is from. Jemson Green is
U2 if U2 jammed with Metallica or Whitesnake. Ronan, their lead singer, and I have developed a
close personal friendship. He's super! Do yourself a favor and have your own listening party
listening to the music of Jemson Green. They also allow free downloads of their music from
their page. They also have a great acoustic
version of "Raged" that I picked up if anyone's
interested in hearing it. Jemson Green. Check
them out.

Lyrics From Jack Chernos

Posted: 06/21/08 18:11:02 | Member: (jimi366) | Tag: Music
I was given permission from Jack Chernos to post
up his lyrics to "The Silence of Good People"
This song has been inducted into the
National Civil Rights Museum. It can also be found as a free mp3 download at Jack's official
website WWW.DEPARTMENT-OF-JUSTICE.ORG
Jack is currently working on the recording
of his latest CD. I've known him for years.
He's one of the good ones!

The Silence of Good People
By Jack Chernos

It once was asked of Martin Luther King
How the progress of rights could be so
long coming.
His answer was not the evil of some
But the silence of good people.

Although we may never arrive in the garden
The sin is not failure, but never starting.
My silent friend, it is of you I am speaking
of.
Of the silence of good people.

We, we will not be silent
We, we will not be silent
We will not be silent

Although we have only hearts, bodies, and minds
Against guns and clubs, lies and threats and
money
When the truth is released each echo comes
louder
on the voices of good people.

We, we will not be silent...

I've taken my place on the streets of our land
with my sisters and brothers by tens of thousands
and I have sweet hope, because I can hear
the rising voices of good people

We, we will not be silent...

Barack Obama Email Recieved

Posted: 06/20/08 10:32:08 | Member: (jimi366) | Tag: Music
To The Hidden Music Family,

As you know, John McCain has NEVER responded to our requests for information nor our
request to interview him while Barack Obama's people have always been prompt in responding. So... I can only go with what I'm being given. Here's an email I recieved
from Barack Obama's People. It's very important that you read it.

Jim,

Barack announced an important decision for our campaign today.

I want to add a little context to the video message you received earlier announcing that we will not participate in the public financing system for the general election.

Even though we stood to receive more than $80 million in taxpayer funding for our campaign, the system has been so gamed and exploited by our opponents that it is effectively broken.

John McCain, the Republican National Committee, and their allies in so-called 527 groups that raise and spend unlimited contributions are dedicated to manipulating this broken system to raise as much money as possible -- and they've proven that they're very good at it.

A top McCain adviser told MSNBC earlier this month, "now that we're in the general election, the RNC money counts, the DNC money counts. So the truth is today, John McCain has more cash on hand and more money than Barack Obama does."

In April alone, they raised nearly $45 million. That's more than our campaign and the Democratic National Committee combined. And that doesn't include the plans of 527 groups like the one called "Freedom's Watch," which has said it will spend as much as $250 million under Karl Rove's direction to attack and defeat Barack Obama.

To compete, Barack has put his faith in ordinary people giving only what they can afford. That's been the strategy of this campaign from the beginning, and more than 1,500,000 supporters like you have gotten us this far.

We have a historic opportunity to prove that a movement of ordinary people has the power to change the way political campaigns are funded. And we have a clear goal as we begin this new challenge: 50,000 people declaring their independence by making a donation before July 4th.

You can help take on John McCain and the RNC by making your first donation today.

A previous donor is standing by to match your gift and double your impact. You can even exchange a personal note with them about why you've chosen to support Barack.

Declare your independence from our broken system. Make a matching donation today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

Opting out of public matching funds was an extremely difficult decision, and frankly we are at a disadvantage when it comes to raising money. Unlike John McCain, this campaign has never accepted donations from Washington lobbyists or special interest PACs.

While McCain has built his fundraising strategy around high-dollar donors giving huge checks to the RNC, you are creating a new model for publicly financed campaigns.

Thank you for your support and for taking on the masters of a broken system,

David

CD Review Ozzy Osbourne- Black Rain

Posted: 06/18/08 17:22:49 | Member: (jimi366) | Tag: Music
CD REVIEW- OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK RAIN
Current mood: determined
Category: Music

To The Hidden Music Family,

I've concentrated on news items recently, now back to some music. I obtained a copy
of Ozzy Osbourne's newest CD, "Black Rain." It is excellent! It contains some of the
best material he's performed in years. The CD has the feel as if you are being taken
on an exciting roller coaster ride. The music hits you in the gut and doesn't let go. I
still have the first song, "I'm Not Going Away", running as a continuous loop in my brain!
Ozzy never pulls any punches. He always tells it straight. This CD is full of social commentary. Every song has something to say. For me the song that is essential
listening on there is "The Almighty Dollar." It is the theme song for these times. The
Hidden music's theme is "The Revolution." Ozzy Osbourne's "Black Rain" is a battle cry
in this revolution. At this point in his career Ozzy could just put out songs that are
formula- rocking sounds and lyrics that didn't really matter- and still sell CD's. Ozzy
has never done that. Ozzy has never sold out. Thank you Ozzy! On "Black Rain" you
get the feeling that he reached deep into his heart and soul. "Black Rain" rocks
for sure, we expect that from Ozzy. But "Black Rain" is more than loud noise. "Black
Rain" is something special. It is essential listening. Everyone should hear it, whether
you're a fan of Ozzy or not. I have not heard a CD this special in years. I'm proud
to have a banner for it on our page.

Press Release- Barack Obama Interview Requested

Posted: 06/16/08 17:11:15 | Member: (jimi366) | Tag: Music
We wish to have you socially informed as well as musically in touch. It is very important
in this day and age to know what's going on. You can't take back society and make a
change in this world if you don't know what's really going on. In our quest to provide
the best possible forum for musical and social change I have formally requested an interview with Presidential candidate Barack Obama. I have expressed our intention
to make this interview available here, on our site WWW.THEHIDDENMUSIC.COM as
well as making it available as a free audio download. Wish me luck! I will tell you that
I have written Senator Obama, Senator McCain, and Senator Clinton recently with questions about the issues and Senator Obama is the only one who has responded. It
is for this reason that I feel we have a shot at hearing what Barack Obama has to say.
I made it clear that I could not give him questions in advance but guaranteed there will
be no "gotcha" moments. It is our desire to provide our interview subjects with the opportunity to have an open conversation with you and I. The Hidden Music is not in
the business of digging up dirt. Senator Obama is my first interview request. I plan
to interview people in the world of entertainment, business, and politics. If you have
any suggestions on who you'd like to hear from message me.

Original Lyrics

Posted: 06/14/08 19:18:08 | Member: (jimi366) | Tag: Music
Here are some original lyrics of mine. They are
dedicated to all the people out here who miss or
wish they got to experience a time when it was okay to dream and changing the world seemed possible.

Bullet
By Jim Miller

I look at the blue sky outiside
and wonder why.
I should be dancing but I feel
like I'm ready to die.
Cold steel blades puncture my skin.
I've been thru Hell, can I find
my way home again?

I wish I could fire a bullet
and blow my whole world away.

I know it sounds sad, but I'm mad.
Mad at myself for fucking up
again and again and again.
It feels alot like a dog chasing
it's tail. I am free as a prisoner
in my own jail.

I wish I could fire a bullet
and blow my whole world away.

I could go from zero to sixty
in 2.5 seconds if only my gas tank
weren't empty. Can you fill it?
Can you fill it? Would you please
give me a dream!

Maybe then I'd find the courage
to fire a bullet made of roses and love
and change my whole world forever.

Join The Revolution

Posted: 06/13/08 03:01:45 | Member: (jimi366) | Tag: Music
In my previous blog entry I wrote that I was waiting for a band to come along, shake things up,
and wake us out of our comas. The music industry
is in need of fundamental change. I then realized
while on a walk today that I was wrong. We don't
have to wait on that band to come along and redefine music. The revolution can start with us.
We are the ones who can shake up the music industry. Maybe we aren't in comas after all. Maybe we've been waiting on music to come along and inspire us to demand change. I now know that we are the ones who can provide the inspiration for ourselves. We are the ones
who can turn the music world upside down and
maybe even inspire that great artist or band
to make the music we've been waiting so desperately to hear. Our you ready to join
the revolution? Here is the first shot, the one
they refer to as the shot heard 'round the world. YOUR MUSIC COMES WITH A WARNING LABEL.
That's right, a warning label. I thought only
things like medicine and poisons came with warning labels. Not so. Your music does also.
This is what the label says- "FBI Anti-Piracy
Warning: unauthorized copying is punishable under federal law. We are no longer fans, we
are potential pirates who are threatened with
the FBI. That is an insult. Since when did instilling fear in people become an acceptable
part of the music experience? Here is another
example of a warning I found- "Unauthorized copying, reproduction, hiring, LENDING, public
performance, and broadcasting prohibited." You
bought the CD, and they are dictating to you what you can do with it. You can get in trouble
just by LENDING the CD to someone. Lending.
You should not be afraid of being sued or going
to jail because you share your music with your
friends or wanted to check out some new music. You bought it. You should be able
to do whatever you want with it. There has been
a big propaganda campaign by the recording industry to make you think that downloading is
stealing music and that you deprive the artist
of income. Maybe this is true of an independent
artist who is selling their own CD's, but not
so for a major label artist. The fact is that
recording artists make most of their income from
ticket sales to their concerts and from the sale
of merchandise. One of the members of Panic! At
the Disco said in an interview that his band recieves a royalty of 17 cents per CD sold. 17
cents. Hannah Montana is not starving because
you downloaded her CD. I went to JC Penney today and saw all kinds of merchandise being sold with her picture on it. The fact is that
someone could download her CD, dig the music,
and buy some merchandise and everyone comes out
a winner. Well, I am partially right. You wasted a perfectly good blank CD recording it.
The other fact to keep in mind is that most of
the artists out there do not own the rights to
the music they made. The record companies own
the recordings. Record companies are notorious
for screwing over their artists. At one point
during a fierce battle to get the rights to his
music back from Warner Brothers, Prince appeared
in public with the word "slave" written on his
face. In the eyes of the recording industry they
are the pimps, the artists are they're whores,
and we are the johns. In the 1960's performers
routinely performed concerts for free. Music
was art for art's sake. This is still true for independent artists. With major recording labels this is no longer the case. The desire
to entertain and enlighten people has been replaced by
the single minded purpose of taking your money.
It is clear that the enjoyment of music is now reserved for those who can afford to pay for it.
Fans are considered to be "Pirates" and criminals. They want to lock us up and sue us
because we want to listen to music. Prince, who
I previously mentioned as considering himself a
slave to his record label, used to be at the forefront of using the internet to promote his
music. He used to care about his fans. Times
have changed. Prince now has a company called
"web sheriff" surfing the net to find fan based
websites featuring him. These website don't even have illegal download links on them. They
mostly have concert reviews and promote his upcoming projects for free. You'd think he'd
appreciate that. Instead, when web sheriff find
a site Prince puts his lawyers to work. He sends the owners of the website a letter from
his attorney demanding that his picture be removed from the websites and that they stop using his name. He even wants pictures of him
taken by fans to be taken down. He even wants
pictures of Prince inspired tatoos and license
plates to be removed. When the websites got together and formed a website called
WWW.PRINCEFANSUNITED.COM to protest what was
going on Prince freaked and even took his own
official website down. The web address for that
site is www.3121.com When you go there you will
find the screen is black. So let's start the
revolution. You and I have the power to shake
things up. We are the ones who can wake each
other out of our own comas. Music should be fun. Music should be available to all. Bands
WANT their music to be heard. Now I know I may
catch some flack from some artists for writing
this but I think the internet should be a promotional tool and people SHOULD be able to
download without fear of being arrested and sued. Music should be available to the widest
audience possible. Most people who download
are people who may have never been exposed to
the music of these artists otherwise. Not only
that, but a study was found that most music being illegally copied is by people who bought
the CD and made copies for their friends. As
a matter of fact the word "illegal" should offend you. It is an attempt to scare you. Again, music is available to those who can afford to pay for it and those who can't afford
it are seen as people the record companies don't
consider worthy of even hearing it. Pick up a
CD from your collection, get the address of the
record company, and write them a letter demanding that the fans no longer are thought
of as pirates and criminals and demanding that
the warning labels be removed from all CD's.
Warning labels were only put on CD's within the
last few years. Before then you were considered
a fan and you were appreciated. Now music is considered property, not art. Money is all that
matters. Support your independent artists, like
the bands and artists on this site. Many of them sell their own music and really do depend
on your purchase of their music to survive. They
WANT you to hear their music. But let them know
that you want the warning labels to no longer be
displayed on their CD's and that suing and jailing fans is not cool or acceptable. This
is the beginning of the movement to shake up
music- GETTING THEM TO RESPECT AND APPRECIATE
THE FANS AGAIN. GETTING THEM TO THINK BETTER
OF US AS PIRATES AND CRIMINALS FOR THE SIMPLE
FACT THAT WE ENJOY THEIR MUSIC. WE ARE THE ONES
WHO SHOULD BE SENDING OUR OWN WARNING LABEL AND
IT SHOULD READ AS FOLLOWS-
WARNING- SEEING FANS AS PIRATES AND CRIMINALS WILL RESULT IN DECREASED CONCERT TICKET SALES,
DECREASED MERCHANDISE SALES, AND EVENTUALLY A
TOTAL LACK OF INTEREST. YOUR INSISTANCE THAT
MUSIC IS PROPERTY, AND NO LONGER ART, WILL NO
LONGER BE ACCEPTED. So people, demand better
music and demand to be respected. Let's get
those warning labels removed and get the artists
and record companies to stop suing fans and threatening to jail them. I just thought about
this fact- THEY **** ABOUT LOSING MONEY TO DOWNLOADING BUT THEY SPEND ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF
MONEY TO TRY TO STOP IT. THAT MONEY COULD BE
USED TO SIGN THESE HIDDEN ARTISTS.

We Deserve Better!

Posted: 06/11/08 20:51:09 | Member: (jimi366) | Tag: Music
The Hidden Music is a great website! It is providing artists the opportunity to be heard
in an era when recording contracts are being
offered based on whether or not the performer
can be slickly marketed. Whether or not the
performer has talent is never even taken into
consideration. I wonder if Jimi Hendrix or Nirvana would be offered recording contracts in this day
and age. I think it is a sorry state of affairs
that Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan got to put out
CD's and Hannah Montana is being sold to us as being a concert experience. Call me old but it
is a fact that much of the music that is mainstream and popular today will be quickly
forgotten in just a few short years. It is an
insult to our intelligence when recording executives think that if they slickly market
a band or performer who looks good we will buy
the CD's. To them, the music doesn't matter anymore. It is a very sad state of affairs that
the record executives are right. They've slickly
marketed us people who have no talent and nothing meaningful to say and we've bought the
CD's like candy. To me, music hasn't been the
same since the death of Kurt Cobain. "Nevermind"
is, in my opinion, the most influential CD of the past 20 years. It is a treasured part of
my CD collection 17 years after it's release.
Will anyone out there have a Hannah Montana or
Britney Spears CD in their collection 17 years
from now? I doubt it. When you buy a CD you
should ask yourself whether the performer's music has any real meaning, do they have something to say. A real good way to find the
answer to that question is whether or not the
performer writes their own songs. Most popular
performers of this day do not write their own
songs. Music used to be the voice of a generation. Do we really want Britney Spears
to be our voice? Rappers talk a lot, but are
they really saying anything? In my opinion most
are not. They put out song after song with the
same theme- I'm rich, I'm a gangster, and I don't respect the ladies, and I'm a player. So
what?! Music should ideally be the soundtrack
to your life. I won't just point the finger
at Pop, Hip-Hop, and Rap- many country music
performers don't write their own songs either.
I saw Tim McGraw in concert and he said he wrote
a song, but admitted he usually doesn't because
his writing sucks. Those are his words- he said
his writing sucks. Music is in desperate need
of being shaken up. I am waiting for a band or
artist to come out with such good music that it
will wake us up out of our comas. I am waiting
for music to come out that challenges our very
concept of what music really is. I hope that
someday soon someone will put out music that
will make us see that what passes for popular
music these days is not music at all. There may
very well be a chance that one of the artists
on The Hidden Music may be the one.
